Just to recap what we discussed in class today:

Story: chronological order of occurrence

Discourse: refers to all manipulations of the story that occur in a narrative (e.g. in media res, etc.)

The World According to Roland Barthes:

Hermeneutic Code: those elements that raise questions on the part of the reader/viewer (openings of CSI, CI, etc.)

Proairetic Code: refers to mere actions--those plot events that simply lead to other actions (e.g. Dr. McSteamy is fading! STAT! then commercial)
