Please post your research paper thesis statements here. State what you will be comparing. If you have a thesis statement prepared, blog it. The sooner you create a thesis statement, the sooner I can evalulate it and offer you feedback.

OK FINALLY I have a

OK FINALLY

I have a complete Thesis statement!

I am going to analyze the correllation between how Ray Garraty loses his identity in The Long Walk after volunteering to do the walk. And how a person in the military loses their identity after volunteering to be in the military. I am going to be using Stephen King's The Long Walk and most likely the movie Platoon.

The Long Walk shows how Ray Garraty loses his humanity when he realizes that If he is to live and win, then his friends have to die. This causes him to lose his previous identity and become somewhat of a cold heartless person who i willing to do what it takes to keep himself alive. Ray also witnesses how people can change. His friends become "friends" who are just as anxious to see him "get the ticket" as he is for them. This is well depicted in the movie Platoon where you see the entire movie throught the eyes of a recruit in the Vietnam War. He experiences the same type of cold shoulder effect and also witnesses the duality of man.

opening quote for my paper

"A war is like when it rains in New York and everybody crowds the doorways, ya know? And they get all chummy together. Perfect strangers. The only difference, of course, is in a war it's also raining on the other side of the street and the people who are chummy over there are trying to kill the people over here who are chums." -Hawkeye Pierce, M*A*S*H

I like

ALICE!Can I change mine from

ALICE!
Can I change mine from Fight Club & The OC to Fight Club (the movie) and Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer?

You see , in Fight Club Edward Norton or "jack" comes to terms with himself and his meaningless existance by inventing an alter ego and doing things he never thought were possible. He tries to free himself from a grey collar working class job and become what he has always wanted to be, free. He hates his life, his Ikea furniture and his fancy collection of ties and suits and dress clothes. He eventually leaves the gas on in his own apartment and blows his room in the condo to smitherines. He says he loved everything about that place and it was his life, but idd he really?
Alex/Chris in the book Into the Wild leaves all of his materialistic possesions behind him and starts a heroic journey of vegabond-advertures. He meets people and travels places without an itinerary or destination. He wants to esacpe all of the material possesions of the world including money and time itself. He does not inform his family or friends as to where he is going, but makes new family and friends along the way. Both characters are trying to leave their old lives behind and start something greater for themselves and society. Jack wants to breed like-minded people like him and form an army. Alex/Chris does it for the freedom of life and closeness to nature.

My Thesis Statement

I am comparing To Kill a Mockingbird with the movie Forrest Gump. Both stories are told through a simple point of view; the book through a child's and the movie through a man who is a little bit slow's. Also, both Scout and Forrest are raised by single parents and the family ties are extremely strong. In each story, lessons are learned that dramatically change points of view and people begin to seriously think about things that they had previously taken for granted.

what central argument will

what central argument will you use to tie the stories together?

Research Paper Topic

For my research paper I plan to compare Zora Neal Hurston's, "Their Eyes Were Watching God" to The Movie make of Shakespeare's, "Romeo and Juliet." My thesis statement will identify the major females issues each of the main characters struggle with throughout the plot and my with my paper I plan to compare and contrast these issues, while stating how these struggles were finally resolved.

Ooops

it was due last monday? i missed the due date not only because i didn't know what i was going to work on for my next paper but also because i didn't know it was due then. Anyhoo..

i will be comparing the movie "end of the spire" and this article i don't have the title in my head right now but it is about this lady who got her son killed by this stranger and it is about how she reacts after years when the killer came to the village. and the movie is about these missionaries who are been killed by the native and how the wives of these missionaries act after thier husbands died.

YEA OKAY!

I MISSED THE DEADLINE BUT I BELIVE I WILL BE DOING MY TOPIC ON INTERACIAL RELATIONSHIPS! FOR EXAMPLE JUNGLE FEVER AND THE COLOR OF WATER BY JAMES MCBRIDE. BOTH OF THESE PLOTS HAVE A CONFLICT BETWEEN BLACK AND WHITE COUPLES AND HOW THESE RELATIONSHIPS DEVELOP ARE VERY CONTROVERSIAL.

Must have missed the memo to

Must have missed the memo to post our stuff up here.

Movie Fight Club and book....fight club?
Ah Crap....

maybe book fight club and movie.... there's gotta be something.....

okay so dont quote me but i

okay so dont quote me but i think i am going to do the movie cruel intentions vs this book called Choke...i think......i dont have a thesis yet.....

Choke = good book!

Choke = good book!

i am torn between two topics.

I am pretty sure I am going to do the movie The Little Mermaid & The short story The Little Mermaid since you said that was okay...... If I change my mind I am going to do The Island and the short story The Lottery that we read in class.....

I forgot the book name but

I forgot the book name but its about the 9 girls who when to the racist school during the 60's and i am writing it on a article of the civil Rights movement

    I am  pretty sure

I am  pretty sure that I will be comparing the book To Kill a Mockingbird with the movie Forrest Gump. I still have to think about the specific ways that I will do that.

Research topic

This is just a preliminary idea, but I am thinking about comparing the movie "The Wizard of Oz" with the play "Wicked"

Although the movie "The Wizard of Oz" and the play "Wicked" contain the same characters, the way the characters act and how they are portrayed varies between the two.  "The Wizard of Oz" portrays the Wizard and Glinda as the protagonists and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the East, as the antagonist .  However, in the play "Wicked" the roles are reversed, leaving the Wizard and Glinda as the antagonists and Elphaba the protagonist.

Wilson is not lost!!!

I am doing the book 'Deathwatch' and the movie 'Reign of Fire' It will be based on a charecter basisLaughing any further detail will ruin the paper.Tongue out

Research Topic

With my research paper I thinking about analzying a work of Toni Morrsion or an African American author and comparing it to film that depicts the stereotypes of African American and how the issues addressed collides with each other...

I just want to start by saying BOO!!!

I am not sure what my thesis should be so i'm going to use this little box to brainstorm.  I was thinking about comparing the book "The Long Walk" by Stephen King.  and possibly either the movie Hostel or something else demented like that.  Who knows... I am not sure how to draw a parallel to a movie unless i have read the entire book.  Which i'm about half way through btw.  I want to see about a movie where the people volunteer to be virtually slaughtered.  If you have any ideas (anyone) please leave suggestions because i don't friggin know.

Misha' Thesis

since i just saw that Nicole stole my thesis, i have to change it.  i was going to do the movie, a walk to remember. i decided that i was going to do the movie "The Notebook" and find a book  that goes perfect with it.  if you have a certain book for me or even ideas, i am more than open.  thank you!!!!!

project topic

I am still thinking of Unbreakable but i can not find a book (not reading the Stand) that i can strongly relate with the movie. Hopefully in class i can find helpful hints on what i can use to relate to it. (maybe Catcher in the Rye.)

Nicole's thesis

i want to compare the song "Sara Beth" to the movie "A Walk to Remember". so my thesis statement is:

Though the song "Sara Beth" and the movie "A Walk to Remember" talk about two different girls with two different health problems, they share similar feelings and doubts in life.  Both of these girls have troubles finding a boyfriend for their own reasons.  Since they both have some form of cancer, they feel that they cannot blend in with their communities or classmates the way non-cancerous students do.  Thankfully enough, both of these girls find a safe haven in their parents.

meh

i don't think i've ever had a thesis statement for any of my papers alice...so i really have no clue what ima do here

i may be on to something

I have an idea...I want to compare V For Vendetta to 1984.  My thesis will be on the lines of how the government or "big brother" is watching.

Coolword

byaaah

I still have no clue as to what kind of thesis I will have....this is always the hardest part of writing papers for me.  I can never think of how to begin or where to start for that matter.  :(

Coolword

there's always the writing

there's always the writing lab....what the hell are you still doing up??
