Class Monday November 20

Hi all,

I've decided to cancel class today. Please complete the Borat blogging assignment by Friday (as usual) for this week's blogging credit. I will tally the grades over break (with all blogging assigments up through week 14).

We're approaching the homestretch. When we return on Monday, you should bring your introductions, polished theses, and a formal outline as well as at least four primary sources to our conferences. Also, as the schedule notes, research presentations begin on Tuesday. We will move in alphabetical order, so here are the presentation dates (note room changes - attendance at all presentations is required and still being recorded throughout end of semester, and some of you are on the border):

Tuesday November 28 - BRNG B291

Thursday November 30 - ENAD 130
Gibson
Gilliam
Gray

Friday December 1 - BRNG B291
Holliday
Kelley

Tuesday December 5 - BRNG B291

Thursday December 7 - ENAD 130

Friday December 8 - BRNG B291 in case of make-up presentations due to running
over time
PAPERS ALSO DUE AT THIS TIME

The presentations should address your research topic, thesis/argument, correlations between the two works, an analysis of the research you used to support your argument, etc. and should be 10-12 minutes long. Please email the project to yourself or bring a jump drive to facilitate good time use.

Have a safe and relaxing break.

Dinner and Mooooo-vie

One man had a dream, a mission, and that was to get the butts of his Purdue ENGL 106 HORIZONS Learning Community to the Wabash 9 to see Borat.

Wefler, we all heartily thank you, and the learning community for its gracious funding, and providing us with way too much popcorn, unbuttered, at that.

Final Research Paper topics - Due Monday Nov. 6

Please post your research paper thesis statements here. State what you will be comparing. If you have a thesis statement prepared, blog it. The sooner you create a thesis statement, the sooner I can evalulate it and offer you feedback.

MLA/APA Format for our next paper - Purdue's OWL

Please visit the OWL site to begin your orientation with MLA citation (giving credit where credit's due). You will be required to cite sources for this week's paper assignment on visual advertisements.

MLA style

APA style

http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/

There are several links. Follow them all. Choose whether you want to use MLA or APA--MLA is used in many humanities departments. APA is used for social sciences (psych, women's studies, anthropology, education, etc.).

****UPDATE: THE WRITING LAB IS NOW OFFERING MLA AND APA WORKSHOPS FOR STUDENTS:
