women barred from combat support
blackfeminism posted on the AP Washington article "Bill Would Bar Women From Combat Support", which proposes that women be banned from serving in combat support:
- WASHINGTON -- Women soldiers in the U.S. Army would be barred from serving in combat support units under language added to a defense bill Wednesday. Proponents of the measure said it would affect only a small number of women, while opponents said over time, it would drastically alter the face of the modern army. The amendment sponsored by Rep. John McHugh, R-N.Y., chairman of the House Armed Services Committee's military personnel subcommittee, would prohibit women from combat support and combat service support units.

I'd be interested to know how Mary's daughter Tommi feels about this, as she has spent most of the last few weeks in a bunker, ducking bombs, an area I would consider a "combat support" zone. Seeing as she was supposed to come home, but was forced back for another two years at the gate....what does this "bill" due to her morale? Does it say that she as a woman isn't "strong" enough to maintain, to fight, to create resolution? Does it negate all of the work, for lack of a better word, that she has done, for lack of another better word? Read this. (No comment on the fact that the bill has been raised by yet another chivalrous republican. And I define "republican" as "why we're there in the first place. and btw, John McHugh evaded the draft, himself.)
