Purdue University officials no doubt thought it was naming a lecture hall for Earl Butz for the right reasons last year. A retired dean, generous Purdue benefactor and former U.S. Department of Agriculture secretary, Butz' contributions to the university and to U.S. agriculture still carry considerable weight on campus.

Congress might have given critics plenty of pork-barrel ammunition with the federal highway bill sent to the president on Friday. The Downtown Business Center was surprised and disappointed with the decision by the Lafayette Kroozers to suggest a boycott of tonight's Dancing in the Streets, due to the Kroozers being required to pay a $5 per person admission fee. This is surprising since the Kroozers' Web site indicates that they will conduct a car show Saturday afternoon at Market Square and at Burger King with a cost of $15 for each car registrant.
